Since 30 years our kids – and not only them – are magically drawn to a chocolate egg that has, on it's inside, a yellow capsule containing a small toy. In 1974, chocolate manufacturer Michele Ferrero had the brilliant idea to insert toys into yellow plastic capsules and to encase them with chocolate. Every year around 120 new miniature models reach the market in editions of up to one million. The variety of the capsule contents no doubt has encyclopaedic dimensions: film and circus, fairy tales and myths, technology and science fiction, etc. The «surprise egg» is a historicocultural phenomenon. The exhibition probes into the initial idea of the inventor and presents development process, diversity, and wealth of invention of a product with a double life.
